The struggle is real! And it's also a recurring cycle -- as satisfying as the cull-and-purge can be, over time things accumulate again. P.S. I don't believe your last sentence for a minute!

It sounds like you have made great process, Katie. I am in a similar space. I can now recycle all my syllabi; it's amazing how much paper I accumulated in 25 years of teaching.

Thanks, Beth. It's made me feel a lot better, that's for sure. I can't even imagine the reams you are dealing with!

I've been doing the same thing lately. with years more of accumulation than you are dealing with, plus that of person who is NOT me, is closer to you in age, and has NEVER discarded anything since 3rd grade. (I trust she will never see this post.) It is surprisingly satisfying to get rid of stuff, even more so to organize what I'm keeping. I kinda disagree about the digitization, though. It makes a lot of sense to me for some things, as space around here is getting a little tight! Maybe you just haven't quite piled up THAT much yet. But really, good on ya for starting this process before you're 70!

I can totally see digitizing working for lots of people. Just not me :) I know l'll regret some things I get rid of, but that's life.
